Surgery is a major event for your body, like running a marathon, and our program focuses on training your body with the right nutrition to improve recovery time and reduce the risk of complications. Our nutrition for surgery philosophy is:
Fueling Recovery, Not Restriction
Pre- and post-surgical nutrition should center around nourishment, not restriction. Meeting protein, calorie, and micronutrient needs protects lean mass, preserves physical function, and supports optimal tissue repair.
Inflammation-Informed Care
Surgery is a significant physiological stressor. We evaluate the full picture including inflammation status, appetite shifts, and functional changes to guide personalized nutrition care.
Metabolic Resilience
An under-fueled or chronically restricted metabolisms often experience delayed healing. Our approach focuses on metabolic repletion, especially for those with a history of dieting, disordered eating, or chronic illness.
Individualized, Evidence-Based Protocols

Appetite as a Vital Sign
Loss of appetite is a clinical red flag. We educate participants on low appetite being a sign of inflammation or under-recovery, not a reason to under-eat, and to continue nourishing the body even in the absence of hunger.
How does the program work?
Our program has 2 parts:
1) Access to Tune via text (take photos of meals and we calculate and track your protein)
2) Access to weekly group calls with Melissa Vasikauskas, Tune Health’s CoFounder and Registered Dietitian to provide you guidance, support and a community of other people on their nutrition for surgery journey
